If you enjoy walking, this is the place to go.

Taitua Arboretum includes a 40 minutes forestry walk through farmland.  For those who have the extra energy a 7 minute hike takes you to the lookout.  Then wander back to the carpark via the Amenity Walk.  They recommend allowing 90 minutes for the whole experience.

When arriving at the Taitua Arboretum drive carefully into the carpark.  There are lots of chickens, hens, roasters and other wildlife everywhere.  You will also find them during your walk as well.  You will be able to hear the roosters before you see them.

The paths are well laid out and you can’t get lost.  It’s very relaxing wandering through the trees, especially as the Autumn leaves are falling.  There are over 20 hectares at the Arboretum.  They are connected by paths, ponds, walkways, and gardens.  If you can, pick a sunny day for your excursion.  We visited when it was drizzly, however it was still an excellent day out.

Don’t forget to take your picnic with you.  There are many beautiful areas where you can sit down and relax.  However, you may need to share your lunch with the ducks.

Most of the walkways are easy to walk so the Taitua Arboretum is an excellent location for a family day out.

Escape the city and go to Taitua Arboretum

It is only a 15 minute drive from the i-Site to the Arboretum or a 40 minute cycle ride.  Leave your bicycle in the carpark while you meander around the pathways.  Perfect outing with your picnic and grandkids.
